The Avenger er spennusaga eftir E. Phillips Oppenheim.
Kvöld eitt kemur Herbert Wrayson að óboðnum gesti, ungri konu, að róta í skrifborðinu hans. Í ljós kemur að hún taldi sig vera í íbúð Morris Barnes, sem býr á næstu hæð. Hún laumast út þegar Herbert er upptekinn, en snýr aftur stuttu síðar, óttaslegin að sjá. Í leigubíl fyrir utan er Morris Barnes, látinn. Hver er morðinginn? Ýmislegt kemur á óvart og sannleikurinn kemur ekki í ljós fyrr en undir lokin.
Enski rithöfundurinn Edward Phillips Oppenheim (1866-1946) var á sínum tíma gríðarlega afkastamikill og vinsæll höfundur spennusagna. Hann skrifaði yfir 100 skáldsögur á árunum 1887-1943 og fjölda smásagna. Fjölmargar sögur hans hafa verið kvikmyndaðar.
